Downed Tree + Ass-Hats @ ComEd = Money out of my Pocket
Well, $425 later, and our power is fully restored. Thanks to freakin ComEd, we had to pay an electrician after hours pay to come hook our power up. Let me explain.
I called ComEd early yesterday morning to report our downed wire and our partial outage. They gave me the "we don't know when it will be fixed, but you're on the list" routine, and HOURS later, we still had not heard anything from them. I decided to call again about 4:00. The power line was on the ground, and the lines were nearly pulled completely out of the wall, so I thought we should be a priority! The second person I talked to agreed, and the service team was out here about an hour later. They disconnected the power, cut the tree off the line, then re-hung it to the house. The only catch was they refused to connect it to the box. Turns out, the box suffered some minor damage, and according to the service tech, they were "only responsible up to the house."
Great. Just freakin great.
So I proceed to call a few local electricians, to try and get someone out here at 6:00 at night. Finally I get a guy here, but in the end it cost us the aformentioned $425 dollars. After hours rates are a bitch. What choice did we have? We would have lost all the food in our fridge overnight, and I'd just spent $125 on groceries Monday night!
Anyway, the tree service the town hired spent most of the day at our place cutting up the tree and taking it away, so there's at least some good news. We won't have to pay for that. Oh, did I mention the tree trimmers dropped a limb on the hood of the Jeep? Man, what a freakin week.

Tornado!
We got hit pretty hard with some serious storms last night, and when the three of us came creeping out of the basement, this is what we saw.
There were very high winds, reaching over 90 mph, and a funnel cloud was spotted very near to us. Our town has trees down all over, and since this one is resting on our power lines, we have a "partial outage". What that basical means is that the lower demand items in the house seem to be working, but the important stuff, like the air conditioner, are m.i.a. Everyone was alright, and hopefully we'll be getting this thing off the lawn really soon. Here's the rest of the photos.
